The holiday season is in full swing and we are joyful and spirited and somewhat careless as we entertain, attend parties and celebrate with mid-winter festivities.

While it is important to have your carpets cleaned before and after your feasts, it is equally important to replace the protector that is lost when your carpets are cleaned.

Did you know that all carpets come with protector built in?
Did you also know that cleaning carpeting expertly removes all of your soil, oils and spots, but also the protector too?

Your carpeting is designed with heavy use, foot traffic and spills in mind. It is also designed to readily accept a NEW layer of protector each time it is cleaned and many manufacturer warranties are valid only if you reapply the carpet protection.

What does protector actually do and isn’t it toxic?

Protector does three things:

It makes vacuuming easier!

Carpet protector surrounds each individual carpet fiber with a layer of “soil repellent” preventing soils and greasy residue from sticking so readily, thus making vacuuming easier.

It prevents stains!

The same technology in effect above is also preventing stains from penetrating into the fibers, so stains can be removed instead of becoming permanently set.

It extends the life of your carpet.

Because dirt doesn’t stick to the carpet fibers, it also prevents damage to the carpet fibers from Foote causing wear and tear and friction between damaging soils and the fibers themselves.

Is protector toxic?

carpet cleaning services

Carpet protector manufacturers used to make claims that once their products were no longer airborne, they were safe. At Mother Nature‘s Cleaning, we have never offered Teflon based protectors be

cause they are not green certified and we never felt good about their ingredients. Such protectors are now illegal in California due to their toxicity, forcing other carpet cleaners to use the same products that we have been using for years. Our green protectors are completely safe and nontoxic, but they do lack the water repelling qualities of their Teflon based counterparts. We are OK with this because they still work to prevent stains from setting, making the cleaning more effective and in the long run doing the same job. The technology in these protectors is tried and true, and they really do what they claim to.

So if you have made it through my technical article to the very bottom, you are probably picking up the phone to call us now so that your holiday feast do not cause long-term damage and give the gift of permanent stains! You will not regret it. Rest easy, knowing that the wine and coffee spilled on your carpet over the holidays can be removed.

Happy cleaning!
