If you notice that the border around your rug is starting to unravel, it’s likely that you’ll need to take it in for a professional overcasting service. It’s important to do this as soon as possible, before it comes apart entirely!

What we do

Our experts will use overcasting to improve the overall look of your rug while also preventing further damage, so you can rely on it to maintain its beautiful look and shape over the long term. This typically involves removing the damage and adding a fresh foundation to the rug’s perimeter.

Each case is different, and we’ll propose a custom solution for your rug. You can rest assured you’ll bring it back home looking as good as new – or even better!

The overcasting process

The particular overcasting service that we perform will vary based on the unique needs of your rug, but our experts will typically start with the removal of the old, damaged border around your rug.

We’ll then use a special stitch (often called the ‘lock stitch) to create a new foundation around the rug’s perimeter. This will reinforce the shape to prevent any further damage or unravelling.

Depending on the style of your rug, we might add in new rows of fabric around the edges of the rug, to create a cohesive look while also building up its strength and durability. We’ll always choose colours and materials that match the aesthetic of your rug, for an effortless finish.

Quick tip: Rotating your rug several times a year can help to maintain the existing overcasting and prevent damage, so you can extend the lifespan of your rug.
